BENGALURU: Former MP Prajwal Revanna has been moved from a VIP cell to a general cell following a raid by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Thursday. During the operation, officials discovered a mobile phone and a pen drive in his possession, which contained obscene videos. This finding has prompted an inquiry into how these devices came to be in his barrack. Revanna is currently serving a life sentence for a rape conviction.
He was arrested in May 2024 in connection with sexual assault cases and was later convicted in a rape case. A special court in Bengaluru sentenced him to life imprisonment in August 2025, following which he was lodged in Parappana Agrahara prison
Roy was described as being like an assistant to Revanna,” the officer said.
“His earlier accommodation was shared with undertrial prisoner Pratap Roy, arrested in a POCSO case.
Investigation to Hold All Officers Accountable, Says Home Minister
Home Minister Priyank Kharge announced that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible for recent events. He emphasized that accountability will not be influenced by an officer’s rank, stating, “Whoever the officer is, action will be taken against him. Whether he is a PC, PSI, or ADG, there is no difference.” This statement underscores a commitment to impartiality in the investigation process.
Prisons and Correctional Services DGP Alok Kumar has also ordered an investigation by a team headed by DIG Jinendra Khangavi. The inquiry will examine how a phone, charger and a pen drive entered the prison and whether any officials helped get the devices to Revanna. “Airtel company SIMs are being used inside the jail. Especially, Airtel SIMs from Andhra Pradesh have been found, despite many warnings about this, the SIMs are being found. Prajwal’s farther and JD(S) leader, HD Revanna, asked about the discovery outside Vidhana Soudha, put the responsibility on the state home department. “The responsibility of the home department lies with Priyank Kharge. His party is in power.
