Supreme Court Allows Banerjee to Travel for Eye Surgery

The Supreme Court has approved West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s request to travel abroad for an eye surgery. This decision comes after the state government opposed her request. The court emphasized that every individual has the right to seek medical treatment overseas.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, found no substantial reason to prevent Banerjee from traveling for three weeks for her treatment. However, the court imposed conditions to ensure her availability to the investigating agency during her absence.

“Every individual has a right to go abroad.

Every individual has a right to choose the medical treatment of their choice,” said the bench during the hearing.
