A 25-year-old man has been arrested on terrorism charges due to his suspected connections with Pakistani gangsters through social media, according to police reports released on Friday. The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about online platforms being used for criminal activities.
The arrest was made following a tip off received by a police constable attached to Doddaballapur Town police station, they added. At around 10.30 am on August 20, the police officials got a tip off from his informer that the accused was allegedly having suspicious dealings with persons from Pakistan, according to the FIR. Based on the complaint, Doddaballapur Town Police registered a case under sections 113(3) (terrorist act) and 197(2) (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested the accused, police said.
Police said he was allegedly in contact with an international anti-social and radicalised individual connected through Instagram.
Further investigation is currently underway to identify and trace the radicalised individual with whom the accused was communicating on the social media platform, they added.
