Amit Thackeray, leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), issued a stern warning on Thursday to auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers. He cautioned them against mistreating passengers or insisting that they communicate solely in Hindi. Thackeray emphasized that drivers who continue to trouble commuters could face backlash for their actions.
On reported differences between the BJP and Shiv Sena over the Marathi language issue, Thackeray said the two parties should address questions about their internal disagreements themselves. Thackeray’s remarks came after the Maharashtra government on Thursday gave auto-rickshaw, taxi and cab drivers one year to learn functional Marathi, according to news agency ANI.
