A 35-year-old playschool attendant has been arrested in connection with the severe physical abuse of a three-year-old boy. The incident occurred earlier this month at a playschool in Maujpur, northeast Delhi, where the attendant allegedly tied the child to a chair. Authorities reported the arrest on Sunday, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
Investigation Launched After Toddler Shows Signs of Abuse
Authorities were alerted to potential child abuse when the parents of a toddler observed concerning behavioral changes and physical injuries. The child had been fearful of using the washroom, exhibited signs of agitation, and cried uncontrollably at night. Additionally, he had visible bruises on his face and arms.
Police reported that staff members at the playschool attempted to shift blame onto the child, criticizing his behavior to rationalize the abuse.
In response to the allegations, a case has been initiated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An attendant has been arrested, and authorities have summoned the teacher for questioning. The investigation is also examining the roles of the playschool’s director and principal.
The student’s family then approached the police on Friday, after which police reached the school premises, seized the CCTV DVR and subsequently registered an FIR, a senior police officer associated with the case said. “When the father, an advocate, approached the school administration requesting CCTV footage, the staff initially cited technical glitches and deferred his request. Upon returning the following day, school officials allegedly demanded ₹ 1,500 to show the footage.
After paying the amount, the family viewed the recordings, which captured acts of physical violence,” the officer said.
Police Investigate School Officials After Complaint
A police investigation is underway following a complaint filed by the father of a boy on Friday. Four school officials have been named as suspects in the case, including the director, principal, a teacher, and an attendant. The 30-year-old teacher has been requested to participate in the investigation, while authorities are currently examining the involvement of the director and principal.
