Chennai, Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjuna unveiled a highway four-laning project at an estimated cost of ₹ 947.46 crore, assuring DPRs for 182 other demands put forth by the members in the Assembly.
Major Highway Upgrade Announced
Arjuna has unveiled an ambitious project to upgrade a 43.16 km section of National Highway 75, connecting Pathalampalli and Latheri, into a four-lane road. The initiative is estimated to cost ₹ 947.46 crore and will include an 11.85 km bypass route serving 13 villages, with land acquisition currently underway. This proposal features new bridges, culverts, and significant improvements to junctions, pending final administrative approval.
In related developments, DMK member and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has called for dedicated bypass roads to alleviate severe congestion along the busy Madurai-Theni corridor, particularly at Usilampatti and Andipatti.
Government Responds to Rising Demand for Infrastructure Improvements
During a recent session of the House, the minister announced that 182 MLAs have formally requested improvements to bypass infrastructure. This announcement came amid a broader discussion on state road infrastructure during Question Hour, where legislators from various parties expressed urgent needs for new bypass roads, high-level bridges, and upgrades to junctions. These demands are driven by increasing traffic congestion and accident rates in the region. The minister assured the House that the government is addressing these requests in a systematic manner.
Responding to the grievances expressed by the legislators on the state of road infrastructure across Tamil Nadu, the Public Works Minister informed the House that Detailed Project Report works have already been initiated across key industrial corridors and high-risk accident zones. PMK legislator G Kumar requested a high-level bridge linking Agaracheri and Koodanagaram. The Minister responded that the proposal is currently in its initial evaluation stage.
