Atletico Madrid has completed the loan signing of striker Jonathan David from Juventus. The announcement was made on Tuesday. David, a 26-year-old forward from Canada, is known for his mobility, link-up play, and versatility in attack, according to Atletico’s statement.
This move comes after a challenging first season for David in Serie A, where he managed to score only eight goals following his transfer to Juventus from Lille in 2025. Prior to his time in Italy, David had a successful stint in France, netting 109 goals in 232 appearances for Lille over five seasons.
He will compete for a place alongside Argentina striker Julian Alvarez, who Atletico held on to despite strong interest from Barcelona. Atletico have an option to buy David worth around 25 million euros ($29 million), according to Spanish media.
The arrival of another striker was reportedly a request from coach Diego Simeone, regardless of what happened with Alvarez. Atletico’s firm refusal to sell Alvarez to Barca has left the Argentina international poised to remain at the club. David joins Morten Hjulmand, Lee Kang-in, Cristian Romero and Alejandro Grimaldo in signing for Atletico this summer. Atletico also loaned French midfielder Thomas Lemar to Elche late on deadline day.
