The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly addressed a pressing issue on Wednesday: the operation of schools without teachers or with only one teacher. This situation has raised concerns about the quality of education and the adequacy of staffing in schools across the state.
During the Zero Hour, BJP MLA Reena Kashyap raised the matter of the teacher shortage in her constituency Pachhad and highlighted that schools were running without any teacher, urging the government to appoint teachers in her area.
State Government’s Teacher Recruitment Efforts
The state government has successfully filled 9,000 teaching positions this year and plans to recruit an additional 6,500 teachers before the end of its term. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that a new policy is being developed for appointing teachers in single-teacher schools. The government is also working to fill vacant posts in various regions through a rationalisation process, acknowledging the complexities involved in teacher deployment and the frequent revisions of posting orders. Additionally, despite being designated as an ‘Aspirational District’ by the central government, students from Sirmaur have been achieving success in written recruitment examinations.
