WhatsApp has rolled out a new bill payment feature in India, simplifying the process for users to manage and pay their household and utility bills directly through the app. Announced on Thursday, the service operates on the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network, enabling payments to over 22,700 billers across 30 categories. Users can now pay bills for electricity, gas, water, FASTag, insurance, credit cards, and loan repayments, enhancing convenience for everyday transactions.

Meta India has announced the introduction of bill payments on WhatsApp, aiming to streamline one of the most common household tasks for millions of users. Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head of Meta India, emphasized that WhatsApp has already become an essential tool for Indians to connect with family, interact with businesses, and access various services—all within the app. With this new feature, users can pay bills as easily as sending a message, eliminating the need to switch between multiple applications or manage numerous due dates. This initiative is part of Meta’s broader goal to enhance digital payment convenience, especially in remote areas of the country.
WhatsApp Expands Features Under New CEO
WhatsApp has made headlines again with its latest announcement, marking the second significant update since Kunal Shah took over as CEO. The messaging app recently introduced browser calling capabilities, enabling users to make and receive one-on-one and group audio and video calls directly through WhatsApp Web. This feature eliminates the need for any desktop application downloads, streamlining the calling process for users.
