Two held for raping 15-year-old girl in Assam's Sivasagar, found pregnant: Police

In Assam’s Sivasagar district, two neighbours aged 19 and 24 have been arrested on charges of abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl. The case emerged when authorities discovered that the minor is at least three months pregnant, prompting police action. Investigations are ongoing as the community grapples with the implications of this troubling incident.

Two Suspects Arrested in Alleged Abduction and Rape of Minor

Two suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged by the family of a minor girl at Demow Police Station. The complaint, filed on Thursday, includes multiple charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including rape and abduction.

The incident allegedly occurred in May when the suspects, who are from the same neighborhood as the girl, reportedly abducted her in a car. It is claimed that she was raped multiple times over the following days, during which the accused threatened her family to ensure her silence.

The girl has undergone a mandatory medical examination as part of the investigation, which will also include the review of phone records. The parents of the survivor are currently deliberating on how to address the situation regarding the pregnancy resulting from the incident.

According to police, the suspects were apprehended yesterday and formally arrested today. They are scheduled to be presented in court, where their statements will be recorded.

“The family members said the girl was facing health problems in recent weeks. When they finally took her to a government hospital, doctors found that she was around three months pregnant,” an investigating officer said.
