Four members of a family allegedly jumped off a bridge into the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district in the early hours of Saturday, police said, adding that a woman was rescued, while her husband and two children remained untraced till evening.

A family tragedy unfolded at the Chinchinada bridge near Yelamanchili mandal when a 42-year-old woman was rescued after jumping into the river, while her husband, 45, and their two children, a 16-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter, were swept away by the strong currents, according to local police.
The family, originally from Tanuku town, had been struggling financially, operating a grocery shop and a milk business. Their son was pursuing a polytechnic course, and their daughter was in Class 9 at a nearby private school.
Local residents reported that the family was facing significant financial difficulties, with mounting debts and pressure from creditors likely contributing to the tragic decision to jump into the river. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
He said rescue teams launched a search operation in the Godavari to trace the missing family members. Efforts were underway to locate the three missing persons.
