A well-known name on Kalyan’s food scene has run into trouble with the authorities after a complaint over how its bread was being baked led to the premises being sealed.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken action against the popular Prince Bakery in Thane’s Kalyan district. During the action, the food regulator sealed the bakery, and further proceedings by the department are now underway.
The move followed a complaint alleging that the bakery was using a wood-fired furnace to prepare bread, according to bakery employees.
Maharashtra Bakeries Ordered to Transition to Cleaner Ovens
The Bombay High Court has mandated that bakeries across Maharashtra cease using coal and wood-fired ovens. Instead, they must adopt cleaner alternatives such as LPG, piped gas, or electric ovens. This directive aims to address the environmental damage caused by burning coal and wood, which contributes significantly to air pollution in the region. The court emphasized the need for immediate action to mitigate these adverse effects.
