During a recent food safety inspection at Bengaluru’s Hockey Club, authorities uncovered serious hygiene violations, including the presence of forty bottles of expired soft drinks. The inspection also revealed a pest infestation and unsanitary conditions in both food preparation and storage areas, raising concerns about the safety of food served at the venue.
The Food Safety Division of the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration issued a notice to the club’s food business operator after the inspection on Saturday. Officials also seized expired food products and items carrying labels that did not comply with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India requirements. The inspection was conducted within the Greater Bengaluru Authority limits. Food preparation and storage areas were found to be unhygienic, while required safety measures for handling and storing food were not being followed.
The department said the problems extended beyond expired products.
Food Safety Violations Prompt Legal Action Against Local Food Business

The presence of pests has raised concerns about potential food contamination, leading the department to issue a notice to the Food Business Operator (FBO). Legal action will be initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration) Regulations of 2011.
Moving forward, the department emphasized that continuous inspections will be conducted on food manufacturing, storage, and sales establishments that violate safety and quality standards. Stringent legal action will follow as necessary under the applicable laws and regulations.
