Sattu and makhana, two of Bihar’s most recognisable snacks, will be part of a welcome kit for delegates and journalists at the three-day Brics Summit of the world’s 11 major emerging economies in New Delhi, as part of an effort to highlight India’s diverse food traditions.
Bihar Products Shine at International Summit
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showcasing the state’s products at a significant international event. In a recent social media post, he emphasized sattu and makhana as key representations of Bihar’s rich food culture and entrepreneurial spirit, aiming to introduce local products to a global audience.
Makhana, which received a geographical indication tag in 2022, is poised to enhance its identity in both domestic and international markets. Sattu, made from roasted gram flour, is a staple in Bihar’s daily diet, known for being both affordable and nutritious.
Kumar noted that the focus on makhana and sattu underscores Bihar’s rural food heritage and its growing commercial prospects. He stated, “The Brics summit brings together leaders and delegations from major emerging economies, attracting significant international media attention. This platform allows products typically associated with Bihar’s local markets to share their stories with audiences beyond the state.”
