A contract worker, who earns approximately ₹ 11,000 per month, has become a crucial figure in the investigation surrounding the recovery of ₹ 17.29 crore in counterfeit currency from a Punjab National Bank (PNB) currency chest located in Saharanpur. This information comes from a police officer involved in the ongoing probe.
Police Investigate Worker’s Role at Currency Chest
Authorities are investigating a worker who allegedly acted beyond his official duties at a currency chest in Manakmau. The police officer stated that the worker’s responsibilities were supposed to be limited to driving and loading. However, he reportedly spent significant time at the facility, functioning as a personal assistant to the manager.
The currency chest, maintained by banks for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), is designed to store and manage large sums of cash. Investigators are currently examining the worker’s access to cash-handling areas and the actual nature of his work.
On Wednesday, police conducted a raid at his residence, recovering various documents and materials that are now under scrutiny.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently investigating a bank worker’s financial dealings and assets. This inquiry includes examining the worker’s connections to the currency chest manager, who has been suspended from their position.
