Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with Prince Rahim Aga Khan on Sunday in Mumbai. During their meeting, Fadnavis pledged the government’s full support for various development projects led by the Aga Khan Foundation. These initiatives focus on critical areas such as education, healthcare, tribal welfare, and environmental conservation.
Both sides agreed to review various projects through such a mechanism and explore their expansion. A proposed children’s hospital, a specialised geriatric hospital for senior citizens, a rehabilitation centre, skill-based healthcare training and research facilities were also discussed. Fadnavis welcomed a proposal to train geriatric specialists in collaboration with medical colleges in the state, saying such specialised healthcare facilities were needed in view of the growing requirements of the elderly population.
The government would extend full support to initiatives aimed at improving quality of life through public-private partnerships, Fadnavis said. The meeting also discussed setting up an institutional mechanism for dialogue between the state government and the AKDN, according to the release. Initiatives aimed at increasing green cover, promoting environment-friendly planning and climate action would be useful for cities in Maharashtra, the chief minister said. He said the government would immediately collect the necessary information on the project and extend the required assistance. He said the network was ready to implement projects on a larger scale in partnership with the state government in healthcare, environment, skill development and social development.
