Indian tennis player Parikshit Somani was on Wednesday banned for four years in a doping case after testing positive for prohibited substance trimetazidine. The 26-year-old Somani, whose career ranking rose to No. 256 in doubles, tested positive for the banned medication while participating in an ATP Challenger event last year in Astana, Kazakhstan. Somani has been provisionally suspended since September 23, 2025, and the independent tribunal banned him till September 2029.
“An independent tribunal has suspended Indian tennis player Parikshit Somani for four years under tennis’ anti-doping rules,” the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said.
Parikshit Somani Receives Four-Year Doping Ban
Indian tennis player Parikshit Somani has been handed a four-year ban due to a doping violation after testing positive for trimetazidine, a prohibited substance. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed the suspension on Wednesday.
While under provisional suspension in late 2025, Somani engaged with the ITIA’s player support programme to explore potential sources of contamination. Tests conducted at a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratory in Salt Lake City, USA, returned negative results for trimetazidine.
In February 2026, Somani claimed that the contamination occurred through food prepared by a family member, which he alleged was tainted by the family member’s medication during the cooking process.
