In a proactive move, the government has mandated that banks operate on Sunday, September 27, in anticipation of a three-day nationwide bank union strike. This decision aims to mitigate disruptions to banking services during the strike period.
Bank Unions Call for Strike Amid Unresolved Issues
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a three-day strike following an inconclusive meeting with the deputy chief labour commissioner earlier this week. This meeting occurred just one day after the finance ministry urged bank employees to suspend the strike and resolve their outstanding demands through dialogue.
To reduce the inconvenience for customers during the strike, the government has decided that Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will remain operational on Sunday. The RBI has also approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches, and currency chests on Sunday. Additionally, central government employees will get their September salaries, wages and pensions in advance ahead of a proposed bank strike, the finance ministry said on Wednesday.
