At least 19 people have died allegedly after drinking spurious liquor in two Nagaland districts in as many days, with police forming a team to trace the supply chain of suspected adulterated liquor in the state and seizing almost 3,000 bottles.
Investigation Launched After Suspected Illicit Liquor Deaths in Nagaland
In Nagaland, eight people have died in Mokokchung district and 11 in Tuensang district over the past two days due to suspected consumption of illicit liquor, according to reports from the news agency PTI.
In response to these fatalities, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, led by Additional Superintendent of Police I Bunglang Chang. The SIT aims to investigate the deaths and trace the source and supply chain of the suspected adulterated liquor, as stated by Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kezo on Saturday.
Following the incidents, the Nagaland police have carried out multiple raids, resulting in the arrest of 19 individuals linked to the case. Authorities have also confiscated nearly 3,000 bottles of liquor during these operations.
