The Election Commission has announced an extension of one month for filing claims and objections during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi. This decision was approved today by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, as part of ongoing efforts to update the electoral rolls.
The Commission has also announced changes to the way certain voters who receive notices during the SIR will be dealt with. The deadline for filing claims and objections in Delhi has been extended to October 30, according to the Commission. The deadline for the disposal of notices, claims and objections has been extended to November 30.
For people who have been issued notices because they are classified as “unmapped” or have been identified as having “logical discrepancies”, Booth Level Officers will visit their homes to collect the necessary documents.
New Guidelines for Voter Hearings
The Commission has announced that voters will not typically need to appear in person before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer for hearings. Hearings will only occur in exceptional circumstances, and when they do, the Commission prefers them to be conducted online. Additionally, an adult family member may represent an elector at a hearing, provided that the elector has authorized this representation.
