The manager of the transport company responsible for the sleeper bus that caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway has been arrested, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four. This incident, which occurred recently, resulted in the deaths of nine individuals. Police officials confirmed the latest arrest on Saturday, indicating ongoing investigations into the tragedy.
Investigation Reveals Ignored Vehicle Complaints
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into a recent bus incident revealed that drivers and conductors had previously reported issues with the vehicle, including a malfunctioning gearbox. Despite these complaints being communicated to the transport company through the manager, they were allegedly overlooked. The incident occurred shortly after these reports were made.
In connection with the investigation, police have arrested two drivers, Pawan and Yogesh Dixit, along with conductor Rohit, all of whom are residents of Kanpur Dehat. The accused reportedly abandoned the bus and fled the scene after it caught fire.
The police are conducting the investigation with the support of the Transport Department, and further actions are expected to follow soon.
An FIR was registered under BNS sections 281 (rash driving), 125(b) (endangering life) and 105 (culpable homicide), among others. The vehicle had accumulated fines of Rs 1.75 lakh through 19 challans, Gautam Buddh Nagar RTO Public Transport Officer Rajesh Mohan had said.
The bus, bearing registration number BR32PA8647, was operated by Raj Kalpana Travel Agency of Madhya Pradesh and was registered in Madhubani, Bihar, according to the Regional Transport Office.
