Indian golfer Pranavi Urs recently became the first Indian woman golfer to victory an Asian

Pranavi spoke to NDTV on the sidelines of the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club on Friday, where she reflected on meeting her idol Rory McIlroy, following boyfriend Karandeep Kochhar for advice, and her ambitions on the Ladies European Tour. Indian golfer Pranavi Urs recently became the first Indian woman golfer to win an Asian Games gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games in Japan. Pranavi also spoke about the guidance she received from McIlroy during her brief interaction with the two-time PGA Player of the Year.

At the end of the day, I won a gold medal. Q: You’ve spent the last few days here at the DP World India Championship. What has the experience been like, especially walking alongside some of the game’s biggest stars? His advice was to take it week by week and shot by shot. Pranavi Urs: Yes, absolutely. We spoke a little about handling adversity. Pranavi Urs: We never really spoke about the triple bogey. We focused only on the positives. He wasn’t bothered about the triple bogey and neither was I. Honestly, I couldn’t have done it without him.

Because even if you have a bad round, you still have three or four more days to bounce back, we spoke about how great golf is. Because we’ve both experienced those emotions, although at very different levels and in different tournaments, it was interesting. Because of golf for the first time, which was something new, he told me he cried.

Pranavi Urs: Yes, he basically told me to keep doing what I’m doing. I told him that during the final round, after making that triple bogey, I actually thought about his first Masters rather than about him directly. He said he likes chasing from behind and playing fearlessly.

Pranavi Urs: I think what Aditi has done, even before Tokyo, has been phenomenal. She’s been winning for nearly a decade. What she’s done for golf in India, not just women’s golf, has been incredible. She’s someone I’ve looked up to since I was a kid. Winning a team silver medal alongside her was an absolute dream. She’s still my role model and someone I continue to admire. She’s also become a good friend. Pranavi Urs: They were obviously very happy for me. As a team, we were delighted to become the first Indian women’s golf team to win a silver medal at the Asian Games. Going into the week, I always believed we could win a medal. To actually achieve it was surreal.
