Alejandro Davidovich Fokina earned the biggest title of his career on Sunday, rallying past compatriot Rafael Jodar to win the Shanghai Masters crown. En route to the final, Davidovich Fokina saved a match point against Frances Tiafoe in the third round and also recovered from a set down to defeat both Hubert Hurkacz and Alexander Zverev. The 27-year-old Spaniard was trailing by a set and a break at 1-6, 2-3 before fighting back to secure a 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory inside the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena and claim his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title.

With the two-hour, 28-minute victory, Davidovich Fokina claimed the third ATP Tour title of his career and by far the biggest. Having lost his first five tour-level finals, including his only previous Masters 1000 final at Monte Carlo in 2022, he has now won his last three finals following title runs in Mallorca and Chengdu earlier this year. Both players were attempting to win their maiden ATP Masters 1000 title. Jodar was appearing in his first Masters 1000 final, while Davidovich Fokina was contesting his second after finishing runner-up at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2022. After lifting the trophy, Davidovich Fokina collected the winner’s prize of USD 1,151,380, while runner-up Jodar earned USD 612,340. The Spaniard will now head into the European indoor season carrying a 10-match winning streak. The Austrian pair defeated Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy 6-3, 6-4 to win the ATP Masters 1000 doubles crown without dropping a set throughout the tournament.
