In Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has raised alarms about the potential deletion of over 73 lakh voters from the electoral rolls. This significant change comes as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), during which nearly 21 percent of registered votes could be affected. Reddy’s warning highlights the urgency and scale of the situation as the state prepares for upcoming elections.
Reddy Criticizes Congress Leaders for Inaction
On Thursday, Reddy criticized Congress leaders at multiple levels for not fully meeting their responsibilities. During a video conference focused on the SIR process, he instructed in-charge ministers to conduct reviews with those managing Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies within their districts. The aim is to address ongoing issues, as reported by the news agency PTI, citing unnamed sources.
The chief minister warned that the party would not tolerate any failure to draw up and implement a proper action plan in line with the directions of the AICC. According to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy’s statement issued on August 11, the state had 3,38,26,448 voters in all. Of these, enumeration forms for 2,64,87,214 voters, or 78.30 per cent, had been digitised.
Reddy further directed Congress leaders to expose what he alleged was a conspiracy by the BRS and BJP to delete votes, the sources said. The remaining 73,39,234 forms, accounting for 21.70 per cent of the total, were classified as “uncollectable”, he said.
Ministers Ordered to Review Districts Within Two Days
Ministers have been instructed to conduct district reviews over the next two days. According to sources from Congress, they are to prepare detailed reports for each constituency. These assessments are expected to provide insights into local issues and governance.
