Iran has announced a significant change in its approach to its longstanding conflict with the United States. A senior Iranian official revealed to Reuters on Monday that the country will transition from a defensive stance to a ‘fully offensive’ policy. This shift follows a deadlock in negotiations aimed at establishing a permanent resolution to the ongoing war with the US.
Iran Prepares for Military Action Amid Rising Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz
An Iranian official has stated that the country is ready to escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz if diplomatic efforts fail. Tehran is prepared to execute a “timely and precise” military response to break the US naval blockade. This statement comes in the context of ongoing disputes over maritime rights, as Iran claims that point 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) grants it authority over the waterway. The United States, however, has rejected this interpretation.
Hostilities have intensified, with Iran reportedly firing on vessels it accuses of navigating through the waterway without authorization. US President Donald Trump declared the pact “over” on July 7, further straining relations. Iran has consistently accused Washington of violating its commitments under the agreement.
