New Delhi, The Delhi High Court will pass on Monday its order on the point of jurisdiction to entertain a plea by makers of Vimal Elaichi seeking to quash show-cause notices issued to their brand ambassadors, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff, by the Maharashtra FDA for alleged misrepresentation of the product in their advertisement.
Delhi High Court to Rule on Jurisdiction for Vimal Pan Masala Case
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court is set to deliver a ruling on September 14 regarding the court’s jurisdiction to hear a case involving Vimal pan masala. The company argues that allegations of surrogate advertising are unfounded, noting that it has not manufactured or sold pan masala in Maharashtra since 2001. Furthermore, the Supreme Court has prohibited the sale of pan masala containing tobacco nationwide since 2013.
The Centre and the Central Consumer Protection Authority’s counsel have contended that the case should be addressed by the Bombay High Court, as the Maharashtra government issued the relevant show-cause notice.
