A recent tragedy at IIT Bombay has led to an abetment case following the suicide of a student, Sahil Wakode. He was reportedly caught using a mobile phone during an examination last Friday. CCTV footage has surfaced, showing an invigilator pulling him aside in the examination hall. This incident has sparked discussions about examination protocols and student pressures in academic environments.
Wearing a black t-shirt, Wakode is seen seated in a front-row seat in the exam hall when an invigilator stops near him. He gets up from the bench briefly, sits back, and then hands over his mobile phone to the invigilator, the CCTV footage shows. Hours later, the 22-year-old second-year student was found hanging in his hostel room.
Condoling his death, IIT Bombay later said the student was found using his mobile phone during an examination earlier in the day. He had uploaded the question paper on ChatGPT to seek answers, the institute had said, adding that no disciplinary action was initiated against him.
