Class 10 students of the Zilla Parishad Girls’ High School in Telangana’s Bayyaram staged a protest on Thursday, demanding the appointment of a Social Studies teacher and basic facilities at the school.
Students Protest Social Studies Teacher Shortage
Students from the Class 10 batch are expressing serious concerns over the absence of Social Studies classes at their school, which has persisted for four months. They reported that the school has been struggling with a shortage of Social Studies teachers for several years, with local sources indicating that the vacancy has lasted between two and four years.
One student stated, “I am studying in Class 10. Our school does not have a Social Studies teacher, and it has been four months. So far, not even a single part of the syllabus has been covered.” Another student voiced worries about their upcoming examinations, mentioning, “We have very few teachers, with some handling multiple subjects and extra classes. Since the Social Studies teacher has been absent for four months, we are worried about our examinations.”
In addition to the teacher shortage, students highlighted broader issues within the school, claiming inadequate facilities such as insufficient water supply, poor toilet conditions, and the absence of a playground. A student remarked, “Our school does not have proper Social Studies classes, water supply, and food facilities. We request the DEO sir to take action.”
The situation escalated into a protest that included a heated exchange between parents and school teachers. The demonstration concluded after the District Education Officer assured the students that a Social Studies teacher would be appointed within two to three days.
