Tragic Incident in Vilangad: Man Killed by Gaur, Relative Dies of Heart Attack

Sunil, a 40-year-old resident of Vayaad Colony in Vilangad, was killed by a gaur on Saturday while attempting to assist forest officials in relocating the animal herd from a residential area. Following this tragic event, Vijesh, a relative of Sunil, suffered a fatal heart attack, exacerbated by the shock of his cousin’s death, according to police reports.

In response to the incidents, local residents have decided to delay the cremation of both men until they receive assurances from the Forest Department regarding the removal of the wild gaurs that have been encroaching on their community.

Residents are demanding ₹ 25 lakh as compensation for Sunil’s family. The MLA said ₹ 14 lakh was currently provided as compensation in such cases and the first instalment of ₹ five lakh would be given to the family soon.

Residents told reporters that gaurs have become aggressive towards humans and demanded that they be shot. He told reporters that the family and residents had shared certain demands and concerns.
