The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Saturday expelled its Telangana state legislative council member Mirza Rahmat Baig with immediate effect and directed him to resign from his MLC post, amid allegations of sexual harassment on a minor girl.
Accusations of Blackmail Lead to Expulsion from AIMIM
AIMIM has expelled a member following allegations of blackmail involving deepfake videos. The action came after the individual, identified as Baig, reported to the Cyber Crime Police that he was being threatened by unidentified persons. He claimed these individuals demanded money, threatening to release manipulated photographs and videos of him.
The police are currently investigating Baig’s complaint, but have not disclosed the specific contents of the alleged video. The party has also refrained from confirming the details circulating on social media. However, an unnamed party functionary indicated that the video purportedly features Baig with a minor girl.
BJP Calls for Investigation into Sexual Harassment Allegations
N Ramachander Rao, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, has called for a thorough investigation into serious allegations of sexual harassment involving a minor girl. Rao emphasized the gravity of the claims and the need for a comprehensive inquiry.
In a related development, Nitin Nandekar, president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Hyderabad, has urged the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) to provide a full explanation regarding the expulsion of a party member, Baig. Nandekar accused Baig of misusing his authority to intimidate local activists and municipal officials in the Goshamahal area.
