A contract worker earning approximately ₹ 11,000 per month has become a central figure in the investigation into a counterfeit currency operation. Authorities recovered fake currency totaling ₹ 17.29 crore from a Punjab National Bank (PNB) currency chest located in Saharanpur. This development was confirmed by a police officer involved in the ongoing probe.
Police Investigate Worker’s Role at Currency Chest
Authorities are scrutinizing a worker’s involvement at a currency chest facility linked to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Although his official duties were reportedly limited to driving and loading, a police officer indicated that the worker spent significant time with the currency chest, acting more like a personal assistant to the manager.
The police are investigating whether the worker had access to cash-handling areas within the facility. On Wednesday, officers raided his residence in Manakmau, recovering various documents and materials that are now under examination.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is examining the worker’s assets, financial transactions and proximity to the currency chest manager who has already been suspended by the bank.
