On Thursday, the Madhya Pradesh administration took decisive action by demolishing illegal extensions of the homes belonging to three individuals implicated in the Banda illicit liquor tragedy. This incident has resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people. The police are intensifying their efforts to dismantle the network responsible for distributing spurious liquor in the region, according to officials.
“Interrogations have revealed details of the manufacturing and packaging of illicit liquor and its supply network across rural areas. A municipal team, accompanied by police, moved into their localities with JCB machines and demolished illegal constructions belonging to prime accused sarpanch Chandrabhan Singh Rajput alias Chandu, divisional president of Karni Sena, and Ashish Sahu. Portions of three houses owned by Manish Lodhi were also razed. The administration has been given a free hand.
So far, police have arrested 16 of the 33 accused.
Chief minister Mohan Yadav said, “Action is being taken under provisions that carry life imprisonment or even the death penalty. The contractor Manish Lodhi of Barethi liquor shop was in contact with interstate smuggler Ravi Lakhera,” additional superintendent of police Jaiveer Singh Bhadoriya said.
Tragic Weekend: 10 Deaths Reported in Local Villages
A total of ten deaths have been reported in the district over the weekend, with the first fatality occurring on Saturday evening. Nine additional deaths were confirmed on Sunday morning, affecting residents from three to four villages in the area. In response to the situation, 25 individuals were admitted to the civil hospital and subsequently referred to the medical college in Sagar for further treatment, as stated by Chief Medical and Health Officer Devesh Pateriya.
