Senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat on Friday announced his decision to resign from party positions after his personal assistant Chandan Singh Jeena faced raids by the Enforcement Directorate.
Rawat resigned saying, “The Congress Party and Congress workers are fighting united against corruption. Rahul Gandhi Ji is raising his voice against the corruption rampant in the education system at the national level through the ‘Echo of Students’ program. At such a time, if any action of Harish Rawat introduces any weakness in the party’s struggle, I would absolutely not want that.”
Searches Linked to UKSSSC Conspiracy
Recent investigations have revealed that searches were conducted at the residences of key figures involved with the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC). This includes the then Chairman, Secretary, and Exam Controller, as well as the owner of a private computer agency responsible for OMR processing. Additionally, several middlemen allegedly connected to the conspiracy were also targeted in these searches.
Notably, the residence of Chandan Singh Jeena was among those searched. Jeena previously served as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Harish Rawat during his term as Chief Minister from 2014 to 2017, according to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
