Students, especially women, have been protesting across Delhi , raising the issue of safety for women. From proper lighting at the back gate to safe passage for the students to walk through the secluded forest area, students now demand that the government and police look into larger questions of safety. In all, the students believe that calling off classes works against the notion that they uphold, which is to step out on the streets and reclaim them.

Student Accommodation Choices Reflect Safety Concerns in Capital
Sakshi, a commerce student from Madhya Pradesh, highlights a growing trend among students prioritizing safety in their housing choices. Many are opting to pay higher rents for accommodation close to campus to avoid the risks associated with commuting late at night. “We purposely pay high rents and stay near the campus. Who wants to risk commuting in the capital after a certain hour?” she stated.
Coming from a small town, Sakshi notes that the anxiety surrounding safety is compounded by frequent calls from family, particularly when incidents of violence are reported. “When such cases come to the fore, the calls only increase, and so does the anxiety,” she added, reflecting the heightened concern among students and their families regarding safety in urban environments.
