River rafting operations on the Ganga River in Rishikesh have been suspended indefinitely due to persistent rainfall over the last two days. Authorities have announced that activities will only resume once the weather conditions improve and the river levels return to a safer state.
“After a two-month monsoonal break, rafting resumed with religious rituals and prayers to Ganga. The buzz had returned to Muni-ki-Reti and Rishikesh, but the sudden rainy spell has led to the cancellation of dozens of bookings. Many people have left their resorts and hotels as the weather forecast for the next two days also predicts rain and cloudy conditions,” said Sohan Singh Negi, a lodge operator in Tapovan, about 10 km from Rishikesh.
River Rafting Suspended in Garhwal Division Due to Rain
River rafting in the Garhwal division has been suspended immediately due to ongoing rain and advisories from the Meteorological Department. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice. Rafting activities will only resume after a thorough assessment of the weather conditions, the monsoon forecast, and the Ganga’s water level, as well as the weather outlook for the following week. Tehri Garhwal district tourism and adventure officer Sobat Singh Rana emphasized that all river rafting operators and stakeholders must comply with this order.
