TMC MP Mahua Moitra posted a video on X claiming that eggs were thrown at her by “BJP supporters” when she visited her constituency, Krishnanagar, on Wednesday.
This is not the first time eggs have been hurled at Mahua in Bengal this year since TMC lost power in the state. Mahua alleged that eggs were thrown at her despite having informed the West Bengal Police about it. “Big shout out to Hon’ble Justice Dipankar Datta. MiLord. BJP workers, with their help, pelted eggs at me. “You are a member of Parliament? Having taken the plunge into politics, you fear eggs? When our freedom fighters have taken bullets on their chest? In July too, she had alleged that a group of people hurled eggs at a venue where she was meeting party workers in Bengal. She had blamed BJP workers for the incident at that time as well. Mahua has maintained that the police refuse to act even when she reaches out to them about these ‘attacks’.
Taking a dig at a Supreme Court judges’ comment that she should not fear eggs when freedom fighters faced bullets, Mahua said she was ‘pelted with eggs by BJP workers during her visit to her constituency for a meeting’, and she faced the incident like ‘freedom fighters faced bullets’. True to your advice, I faced them as a freedom fighter faced bullets,” Moitra said.
These are applications that should not come before this court at all,” the bench had remarked while declining to interfere with an order of the Calcutta high court directing Moitra to appear before the investigating officer in person.
