Those who assault doctors are not entitled to bail, the Supreme Court observed orally on Tuesday as the Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, accused of assaulting doctors at a civic hospital in Thane district in July, approached the court, challenging the Bombay High Court’s strict bail conditions in his case .

On July 6, an incident occurred at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Goa, where Mhatre and several accomplices assaulted medical staff. The attack was triggered by family members of a pregnant woman who alleged that the hospital delayed treatment. Following the incident, a video capturing the assault went viral.
In response to the incident, the court has imposed several conditions on the accused. They are required to reside in Calangute, Goa, report to the Anjuna police station three times a week, and remain outside Maharashtra until the trial commences.
