Karnataka’s Home Minister Priyank Kharge confirmed on Saturday that Gyanendra Kumar, a senior IAS officer and former controller of examinations for the state public service commission, has gone to Uttar Pradesh. The trip is to care for his ailing father. This clarification comes amid public interest regarding his recent absence from official duties.
Search Underway for Missing IAS Officer Following ED Raids
Reports have emerged that IAS officer Kumar is currently missing after recent raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) linked to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of veterinary officers. In response to this situation, a senior IAS officer has reached out to the Bengaluru police commissioner for assistance in locating Kumar.
The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday raided the KPSC premises, former KPSC chairman Shiva Shankarappa Sahukar, member Shanta Hosmani and others as part of a money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the veterinary officer recruitment examination. Following this, the Cabinet has decided to recommend to the Governor to suspend Shivshankarappa Sahukar. However, after officials verified the matter, Kharge said there was no basis to describe the officer as missing and maintained that he had travelled due to a family emergency.
The High Court had earlier quashed the suspension order against him.
