Bengaluru: The families of three men who were killed in a shooting incident at the Shagya range of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary have ended their protest. This decision came after Hanur MLA MR Manjunath promised them compensation and assured that action would be taken against those responsible for the incident, according to officials on Sunday. Residents from nearby villages had joined the protest, seeking justice and accountability following the tragic event.
Protest in Hanur Demands Justice and Compensation
Families of the deceased staged a protest in Hanur, calling for compensation, government jobs for their dependents, and accountability for forest officials involved in a recent firing incident. MLA Manjunath visited the protest site and assured the families that they would receive a total compensation of ₹ 15 lakh. Additionally, BJP state president BY Vijayendra condemned the incident and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
Investigation Launched into Officials’ Conduct Following Protests
In response to recent protests, the government has initiated an investigation overseen by a magistrate to determine if any officials acted improperly. Authorities have pledged that if any personnel are found responsible, they will face consequences, including possible suspension.
Following these assurances, protesters have agreed to pause their demonstrations, but farmer leaders have indicated they will resume their actions if the government fails to meet its commitments.
Concerns have been raised regarding the actions of forest personnel prior to the use of force, with calls for those involved in the incident to be relieved of duty during the investigation process.
