A government employee working as a Group B officer and earning Rs 80,000 monthly said she was considering leaving the job for a private sector opportunity. The 34-year-old woman sought advice from social media, asking whether her decision to leave her comfortable and safe government job that came with benefits and a ‘certain social status’ was a realistic decision.

The employee said she had always been ambitious and wanted to learn more, take on bigger challenges, and work in roles where performance translates into faster growth. “I increasingly feel that my growth has become saturated, promotions are largely time-bound, the financial upside is limited, and regardless of how much more I am capable of doing, the trajectory remains fairly predetermined,” the woman said. The woman said she was mulling transitioning into the private sector, where her government experience would be highly valuable in key areas such as taxation, regulatory affairs, public policy, and compliance.
