Rescuers on Tuesday recovered another body from the inundated, under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli, taking the death toll to nine, as the search for the lone missing worker continued. Debris and slush were being removed from the site.
Rescue Operations Intensify in Chamoli District Tunnel
Rescue teams in Chamoli district are intensifying their search efforts for a missing worker trapped in a tunnel. District magistrate Gaurav Kumar reported that rescuers are engaged in continuous searches and are actively removing sludge and dewatering the tunnel to expedite operations.
To assist the rescue teams, suction pumps and other essential equipment are being utilized, allowing them better access to potential search areas. Kumar emphasized that searching for the missing worker remains the top priority.
On Monday, Garhwal commissioner Anand Swaroop conducted a review meeting in Gopeshwar to evaluate the progress of the ongoing rescue operation. He urged officials to accelerate their efforts in the search and rescue mission.
