Monaco can draw level with Lille if they beat Paris FC on Sunday. Achraf Hakimi starred with a superb hat-trick as a heavily rotated Paris Saint-Germain thrashed bottom-placed Le Havre 5-1 in Ligue 1 on Friday. PSG’s closest challengers, Rennes, suffered a 5-2 defeat to Nice, allowing the defending champions to extend their advantage at the top of the table. Elsewhere, veteran striker Olivier Giroud scored a late winner as Lille edged Lens 1-0 at home to move into second place. The former World Cup and Champions League winner, now 40, struck in the 86th minute to settle a tense contest. PSG lead the standings with 20 points from nine matches, while Lille are second on 18 points. Rennes remain fourth with 16 points.
A quick counterattack caught the visitors off guard, and striker Josh Maja finished clinically to score against the run of play.
Despite their position at the bottom of the table, Le Havre started brightly and stunned PSG by taking the lead in the 18th minute. Le Havre pushed for a second goal but were punished on the counter. Mika Godts raced onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Hakimi and equalised in the 26th minute. Hakimi completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute, threading a shot through a crowded penalty area to cap a sensational performance. Moments after celebrating his third goal, the Morocco international was substituted by coach Luis Enrique.
The European champions began to dominate proceedings, and Hakimi grabbed his second goal before half-time with a well-struck free-kick that curled past goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart, giving PSG a 3-1 lead.
