Cristiano Ronaldo's "Best In History" Remark Goes Viral After Lionel Messi's Argentina Retirement

On Monday, an old interview of Cristiano Ronaldo went viral on social media, where the Portuguese football legend claims himself as the greatest footballer ever. Who is the football G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time)? It is a debate that rages on between players, experts and fans, and is one that does not seem to be reaching a conclusion.

In the interview, which dates back to February 2025, Ronaldo states that his football legacy does not depend on whether he reaches the milestone of 1,000 goals.

“The best in history is me, full stop. The numbers speak for themselves. Ronaldo went on to explain that his goal-scoring achievements mean that there is no place for debate on who the greatest is. But I don’t like it. I don’t like it. Things have to happen naturally. Full stop. There’s no debate about who the best in history is. You just have to keep scoring goals. The numbers say it all.

If I get there (1,000 goals), it is amazing, an objective, but I don’t think long-term,” he had stated. “I’m 85 goals away, but I don’t think I actually like it. Whether it’s 920 goals, 925, 930 I’m the best in history.

“People are not valuing the form I am in, my goals,” Ronaldo had said in the interview with journalist Edu Aguirre , which is set to be re-aired by CNN Portugal.

“If someone prefers Lionel Messi , Pele or Diego Maradona, that’s a matter of personal taste. I respect that. But saying Cristiano Ronaldo is not a complete player is a lie.

I am the most complete player,” he had said.
