In a recent video on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan middle-order batter and chief selector Mohammad Wasim made headlines by asserting that Fatima Sana, captain of the national women’s cricket team, is currently more popular and performs better than Babar Azam, the skipper of the men’s Test side. Wasim’s comments come as Babar has faced a significant decline in his performance, while Fatima continues to showcase her impressive all-round abilities on the field.
Wasim Praises Fatima, Critiques Babar’s Captaincy Struggles
During his YouTube show ‘BolWasim’, former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram expressed his belief that Fatima is a standout player, stating, “She’s ahead of them all” when comparing her to Babar Azam in men’s cricket. He emphasized her superior understanding of the game among educated cricket enthusiasts.
In a separate commentary, Younis Khan highlighted the challenges Babar Azam faces as Pakistan’s Test captain. He noted that the pressures of leadership appear to be negatively impacting Babar’s performance, suggesting that the team may be losing out on his potential by assigning him these responsibilities.
“She is batting and bowling as well, and now we are talking about the boys and girls together. So, at the moment, if you even look at the international media, they always praise Fatima Sana even though she is often on the losing side. The other cricket stars we have on this side (men’s) are not mentioned in an equally praising manner as her, and obviously their performances are not that good. So, we can say that she indeed is our superstar currently,” Wasim added.
Babar, who was reappointed Pakistan’s Test captain in July, led the national side to a 1-1 draw against the West Indies and a 0-3 whitewash against England in his first two series in charge.
