PSG produced a sensational display to register a commanding 6-0 victory over Villarreal in their UEFA Champions League clash at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Tuesday night. Following the win, PSG sit top of the table with a perfect record from four matches and have scored 20 goals, the most by any team in the competition so far.
Following his side’s win over Villarreal, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) boss Luis Enrique said that being top of the standings and leading the scoring charts “does not count for anything” as his focus remains on securing a third successive UEFA Champions League title.
“In football, I have seen teams score three goals in five minutes.
There is no point in trying to defend; you must instead focus on attacking, and had we conceded this number of goals in such a short period, we would have faced the same difficulties that Villarreal faced,” he said.
There will only be one champion in the final in Madrid, and our goal is to win the title there. In previous seasons, we were crowned champions of the Champions League without finishing the league phase among the top eight. Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Desire Doue doubled PSG’s lead three minutes later. Ruiz completed his brace in the 50th minute, and David Boly rounded off the emphatic win with PSG’s sixth goal in the 78th minute.
Senny Mayulu made it 3-0 in the 13th minute, while Ruiz struck in the 17th minute to put PSG four goals ahead.
Speaking about his team’s objectives after the match, Luis Enrique said, as quoted by Goal.com: “This (team’s goalscoring and position) does not count for anything.
Fabian Ruiz starred with a brace, while Joao Neves produced another impressive display in midfield. The French champions delivered a devastating attacking performance, scoring four goals inside the opening 17 minutes to put the contest beyond Villarreal’s reach.
