Former Union minister Smriti Irani has made a significant political comeback, being appointed as one of the eight national general secretaries of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This announcement comes alongside the party’s decision to appoint 13 national vice presidents, which includes notable figures such as Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Tirath Singh Rawat, Ram Madhav, and Baijayant Jay Panda. The reshuffle was approved by BJP National President Nitin Nabin and also includes 16 national secretaries.

The party also named new heads of its various morchas ( fronts ) , including Hemang Joshi as BJP Yuva Morcha president and Roop Kumari Choudhary as BJP Mahila Morcha president. The party has also sought to provide representation in the party to leaders of all major regions of the nation. By appointing Phangnon Konyak, Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb as national general secretaries, the BJP has attempted to provide representation to the north-eastern states. From the south of India, D. Purandeswari from Andhra Pradesh has become a national vice president, and M. Venkatesan from Tamil Nadu has become a national secretary. There is a strong focus on regional representation with a mix of seasoned leaders and younger faces taking charge of key posts. Another key name that appeared is former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
