Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra ‘Balen’ Shah expressed gratitude to India, China, and the United States for their prompt assistance after the devastating flash floods in the Bhotkoshi River. The floods, which occurred a week ago, have resulted in over 1,200 fatalities and have caused widespread destruction across at least three districts, including the loss of villages, roads, and power plants. During his address to the Nepali Parliament on Tuesday, Shah highlighted the critical role of emergency assistance teams and relief supplies from neighboring countries in addressing the aftermath of this disaster.
“In these difficult times, we got support from various countries, including India, China, the US, and others.
We got support from various banks,” Shah said. Shah’s comments came days after Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said the Himalayan country has decided to shift its diplomatic position to claim climate-linked ‘compensation’ from major emitters for natural disasters.
