Devdutt Padikkal has emerged as a strong contender for the No. 3 position in India’s Test team following his impressive back-to-back centuries against Sri Lanka in the ongoing series. With Sai Sudharsan sidelined due to injury, Padikkal has capitalized on the chance to showcase his talent.
Despite earlier indications from the Indian team management that Sudharsan would receive extended opportunities, Padikkal’s recent form could shift the balance in his favor. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has suggested that Sudharsan will likely be benched, paving the way for Padikkal to take the No. 3 spot in upcoming matches.
“How well is he (Padikkal) batting! I love him to bits. DDP is an outstanding cricketer. DDP is a gun player.
He has played four matches in total, and he has already run ahead of what Sai Sudharsan had scored in seven matches while playing 12 innings,” Chopra said, speaking on his YouTube channel, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
