On Friday, Delhi Police detained several protesters during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The gathering was organized to voice opposition against caste-based reservation policies. As the crowd swelled, police took action to manage the situation, resulting in multiple arrests.
One of the recurring demands raised at the protest site was that economic disadvantage, rather than caste alone, should determine access to government support and benefits. Protesters also sought a review of the reservation framework, changes to quota policies and greater support for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The demonstration was mobilised largely through social media by the ” Reservation Hatao Andolan “, an Instagram-based campaign that had appealed to its followers to join the physical protest.
Concerns Over Reservation System’s Efficacy for Marginalized Communities

Participants emphasized that the social and economic circumstances have evolved significantly over the years.
One participant remarked, “There should be a wider discussion on whether the existing framework needs to be reviewed and how economic disadvantage can be addressed without discrimination.” This statement underscores the need for a reassessment of current policies to ensure they effectively support marginalized groups.
