US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he plans to increase tariffs on various Canadian auto products by as much as 50% starting in 2027. This decision follows the breakdown of recent trade negotiations between the two countries. Trump emphasized that Canada will no longer receive the same treatment as a US ‘state.’
Build in the U.S. “On January first, 2027, tariffs on all cars, trucks, both large and small, automotive parts, and steel, will be increased to 50%.
And there are zero tariffs,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. Trump said that Canada is among the “worst” countries in the world to deal with.
